Hairspray

Coming November 2027

You can’t stop the beat! In 2027, we’re bringing Hairspray to the stage — a vibrant celebration of

identity, change, and community. Please note that this production comes with strict licensing

and casting requirements.

 

 

 

🔒 Casting Policy

In accordance with our licensing agreement, all roles must be cast in alignment with the

character descriptions provided in the official script. This includes the explicit prohibition of

blackface or makeup to portray characters of color.

 

Role Requirements Overview:

*These roles must be played by white performers

  • Tracy Turnblad*

  • Corny Collins* – Host of the television show named after him

  • Edna Turnblad* – Tracy’s mother (must be played by a man)

  • Penny Pingleton* – Tracy’s best friend

  • Velma Von Tussle* – Amber’s mother and producer of The Corny Collins Show

  • Amber Von Tussle* – Link Larkin’s girlfriend and Tracy’s rival

  • Link Larkin* – Star of The Corny Collins Show

  • Seaweed J. Stubbs** – Tracy’s classmate and good friend

  • Little Inez** – Seaweed’s younger sister

  • Motormouth Maybelle** – Mother of Seaweed and Little Inez, guest DJ on The Corny

  • Collins Show

  • Wilbur Turnblad* – Tracy’s straightforward and kind-hearted father

  • Prudy Pingleton* – Penny’s strictly conservative and narrow-minded mother

  • Harriman F. Spritzer* – President of Ultra Clutch Hairspray

  • Mr. Pinky* – Owner of “Hefty Hideaway”

  • The Dynamites** – Cindy, Peaches, Pearl

  • Corny Collins' Kids* – Tammy, Brad, Fender, Brenda, Sketch, Shelley, IQ, Lou-Ann

  • Lorraine, Gilbert, Duane – Tracy’s schoolmates

  • Gym Teacher

  • Prison Matron

  • Prison Guard

  • Beatnik Chick, Female Prison Inmate

  • Ensemble: School students, sex workers, protesters, etc.

🎤 BIPOC Casting

We are committed to authentic, respectful representation. Casting for BIPOC roles will take

place on a rolling basis throughout 2026, with a final major audition round for all non-BIPOC

Roles in January 2027.

 

🗓 Important Dates

  • Auditions: Rolling through 2026 + final round in January 2027

  • Rehearsals: Sundays + select weekday evenings (scheduled based on your availability)

  • Show Dates: November 2027 Ballhaus Prinzenallee

  • Monthly Participation Fee: €42.50

🎬 Join the Hairspray Creative Team

Hairspray will be artistically directed by Kaliyah Wood and produced by Lauren Stephens, and

we are assembling a large, dynamic creative team to bring this powerful show to life.

We are seeking:

  • 2x Directors

  • 2x Choreographers

  • 3x Music Directors

We strongly encourage BIPOC artists and creatives to apply for these leadership roles.
