Service Description
Live theater means that no matter how well-rehearsed we are, things never go quite to plan! Dropped lines, forgotten lyrics, missed cues…it’s guaranteed to happen. But with a little practice, we can learn to miss a line without missing a beat! In this course, we’ll explore the core principles of improvisational theater to start getting comfortable with the unexpected. Using short-form improv exercises and games, we’ll practice skills we can carry over to scripted musical theater, including: - thinking fast - staying present - reacting authentically - turning mistakes into opportunities - trusting our impulses - making bold choices - committing with confidence And all in a safe, inclusive, welcoming environment! This workshop is for people: - 16 and up - with little to no improv experience (or who want a refresher of the fundamentals) - who feel anxiety at the thought of things on stage not going according to plan - who are looking for confidence in making character choices or creating ad-libbed dialogue About the instructor: Tina Marie Serra is an American voiceover artist, improviser, and musical theater performer. In 2022, she co-founded Kaleidoscope, which regularly performs completely improvised musicals to sold-out crowds in Berlin, the UK, and across Europe. She teaches short-form and musical improv at ImprovWorks. With MTS, she was most recently seen in A Chorus Line (Diana), The Wizard of Oz (Almira Gulch), and Journey to the Stars (ensemble). She improvised on stage in every single one of those shows.
